miraDry – Is It Right For You?

What Is miraDry?
miraDry is a non-invasive procedure that targets the sweat glands under your arms, with a goal of reducing both sweat production and odor. miraDry is the first and only FDA approved procedure to permanently reduce excessive sweating under the arms. The miraDry System uses thermal energy to target and eliminate the sweat glands in your underarm – and guess what? Once those glands are eliminated, they don’t grow back!
While Botox injections to the underarm are an alternative form of treatment at other offices, they only last around seven months per round of injections – and at about $875 per treatment according to RealSelf members, is relatively pricey for a procedure that has to be repeated so often. While miraDry has a higher cost, you only need to receive the treatment one to two times (ever!) Clinical research in the journal Dermatologic Surgery shows that miraDry is effective in over 90% of patients, and around 80% require only one treatment to reduce wetness!

What Can you Expect from the Procedure?
Local anesthesia is administered to the underarms prior to the treatment for patient comfort. A temporary tattoo with guidelines for the miraDry handle is then placed to mark the underarm – miraDry is then applied to the underarm, eliminating sweat and odor glands in the area. Most patients describe the procedure as painless with little to no downtime and can return to regular activity (like work) immediately. Slight swelling, bruising, numbness and sensitivity in the area for a few days after treatment are common, but the effects are immediate. Some people even experience reduced hair growth as a side effect!
