PRP: The Basics

Posted November 22, 2021 in MedSpa Treatments

Wake Plastic Surgery is excited to announce that we are officially adding PRP treatments to our MedSpa services! PRP combined with micro needling creates our WPS Platinum Facial. This treatment is commonly known as a vampire facial. If you have seen the trend of celebrities getting PRP vampire facials, you know it can look a little intimidating. It doesn’t have to be! Let us fill you in on all the details.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a platelet concentrated component from your own blood that contains nutrient rich cells and protein growth factors that trigger cell reproduction and stimulate tissue regeneration.

Platelets are the tiny cells that circulate within our body and bind together when they recognize damaged blood vessels.

Plasma is the largest component of your blood, making up about 55% of its overall content. Plasma’s main purpose is to transport nutrients, hormones, and proteins where the body needs it.

What should you expect?

One of our RN injectors will begin by drawing a small amount of your blood. The blood is then placed into a centrifuge which separates the platelets from the rest of your blood by rapidly spinning. This separates the platelets and mixes them into your plasma. The platelet-rich serum is now created and has up to 10 times the healing power of regular blood.

During the WPS Platinum Facial, the PRP serum is applied to your face and then your aesthetician will microneedle it into your skin.

We even offer PRP injections into tear troughs to help restore volume loss.

PRP is safe because it comes from your own blood and leaves minimal risk for a reaction. Because of its healing power and skin regeneration properties, PRP truly lives up to the name “liquid gold”!

What are the benefits?

PRP can be used in many ways to address a wide variety of skin concerns. PRP increases the efficacy of micro needling alone with results such as:

  • Reducing appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Evening skin tone and texture
  • Stimulating collagen
  • Improving visible acne scars
  • Aids in healing injured tissue
  • Little to no downtime
